DLA Piper plans to officially launch its new office in Seoul today. With this opening, DLA Piper will expand its strategic presence to 16 of the G20 economies.

Since the US-South Korea and EU-South Korea free trade agreements were ratified in 2011, which opened the Korean legal market to foreign law firms, creating a strong Korean presence has been an important priority for DLA Piper.  Per South Korea’s Foreign Legal Consultants Act, the Seoul Office will initially advise clients on U.S. law as well as international arbitration.   

DLA Piper is not new to Korean practice.  In fact, it has represented a diverse group of major Korean companies for many years. The Seoul office will not only strengthen business relationships with these clients, but will also provide an opportunity to serve new clients interested in doing business in Korea or Korean clients interested in doing business abroad.

The Seoul office will be led by Daniel Lee as Country Managing Partner, who will work closely with Representative Partner Michael Kim and Of Counsel Ted Yi.
