The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (“NAPABA”) held its 24th Annual NAPABA Convention in Washington, DC from November 15 to November 18, 2012 at the JW Marriott, Washington, DC. Since its inception in 1988, NAPABA has been the national association of Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students and also the forefront of activities in the areas of civil rights reform, combating anti-immigrant sentiment and hate crimes, increasing the diversity of the federal and state judiciaries, and professional development of Asian Pacific American lawyers.

This year’s theme of the convention was “Reaching Monumental Heights” which was a tribute not only to the iconic monuments in DC but also to the leaders in the legal profession within the NAPABA community.  The Convention was supported by many volunteers from the host affiliates, APABA-DC, APABA-MD, APABA-VA, and VABA-DC and was attended by leaders in various agencies, organizations, and firms, judges, attorneys, professors, and law students.

DLA Piper LLP  (US) was proud to be a Gold Sponsor for this event and it was represented by diverse APA (“Asian Pacific American”) attorneys of the firm at the Convention.

Some of the highlights of the events included “A Conversation with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor at the Annual Installation Gala Banquet,” “Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition,” “Trailblazer Awards,”  “Best Under 40 Attorneys,” and “Late Night at the Newseum.”

The Convention was truly inspirational and a true testament to the remarkable accomplishments of the APA legal community.
